Montessori teachers are referred to as "Classroom Directresses" because of their astute ability to orchestrate learning opportunities. They are highly trained to reco
gnize each child's particular needs in all areas of development, and guide the child's progress and skill mastery by providing the right lesson at the right time for him. Our directresses are accomplished and enlightened intellectuals who have studied both child psychology and development in order to present the linear, step-by-step Montessori lessons which span development from birth through early adolescence. Through their rigorous Montessori training plus their own life studies and experiences, our teachers share a perpetual love of learning with their students. They are also gentle, softspoken, nurturing personalities who guide their classrooms from behind the scenes, always maintaining a loving respect for the child.
By design, our students remain in the same class (with the same directress and peers) for a minimum of three years. Such consistency helps a child develop self-confidence and comfortability in the environment, a strong rapport with his teacher, and an understanding of the expectations, which then nurtures academic growth and total development.
Each of our Montessori directresses has attained a minimum of a Bachelors Degree plus a Montessori Diploma (which requires at least one year of additional specialized graduate course work) for the age group taught.
Our school adheres to the AMI standards & curriculum within our classrooms and almost all of our teachers maintain this background. The credentials of all teachers and staff members are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education as well as the Child Care Administration. All prospective staff members participate in an exhaustive application process, including interviews, observations, reference checking and a criminal background check.
