Academy of the Child occupies a beautiful, independent facility which looks like a large home but, as we expand, will be able to accommodate more than 125 students. The lovely classrooms are equipped with furniture sized appropriately for the mixed ages of the children plus a full array of scientifically designed Montessori materials.
The ambience conveys our school's goals of warm-heartedness and nurturing while maintaining high standards of education. Our outstanding faculty work jointly to create a comfortable, clean and orderly environment where distractions are minimized and everything is in its place to entice a child. Students in their third year of Primary Class are often given the privilege of flowing freely to the elementary classroom to observe a lesson or borrow materials. The intimate size of our school contributes to our warmth and enables us to provide a home away from home.
The Practical Life activities at Academy extend to our outdoor environment where the children can be seen planting a garden, shoveling snow, raking leaves (and identifying them by their scientific names), hammering nails, picking blackberries, or just reading a good book on our deck. Picnics under "the big tree" at lunch time are common during comfortable weather. The elementary students regularly organize soccer games on the large open field and basketball games on the half-court.
