At Academy of the Child we are dedicated to creating an environment where each child will maximize his or her unique potential. Children are guided individually, according to their own developmental abilities and needs. Cooperative work with other students of various ages fosters expression of ideas and development of the whole personality enabling each child to learn at his own pace, free from competition, understimulation and anxiety.
From the youngest pre-school age child to our pre-teens, our program presents a happy, stimulating, academically enriched environment along with experiences that are of high moral and artistic standards. We believe that the child's potential is unlimited when presented with the right circumstances, and, therefore, we prepare an environment that will allow him to safely venture beyond the normal expectations for children his age as he becomes capable and interested in doing so.
While our goal is to protect each child's inner time-table for learning, our classroom community offers a haven for each to use his creative powers, investigate and explore things that interest him, express his ideas, and fully participate in nurturing the environment and caring for himself. With this approach the child's whole personality is able to blossom as he becomes better prepared for life -- learning to reason, make choices, cooperate, become self-reliant, take the initiative, care for the world around him and develop a genuine concern and respect for other people.
As the oldest students at Academy of the Child become great thinkers like the philosophers they have studied, they display strong leadership qualities as they venture off to Middle School, having been well prepared for private school entrance exams and competitive classes, yet having had the freedom to enjoy the pursuit of knowledge.
